Our Beginning
Supporting Learners Beyond the Classroom
Abercrombie Academics was established in 2017 by Jessica who wished to support learners beyond the classroom whilst also continuing to practice in her local school.
The name of the business was inspired by her Scottish family heritage. The family surname, ‘Abercrombie’ has its own distinct tartan rooted in navy and dark green. Jess’ favourite colours!
In addition to this, the family clan crest has the motto ‘Petit Alta’ which symbolises ambition and the pursuit of excellence. Its literal translation means ‘seeking higher things’ which reflects a core purpose of why we are in education; to help every learner, whatever their starting point, achieve their very best. ​
Petit Alta also reflects the concept of aiming for high deeds and the importance of demonstrating a strength of character. Our team have a strong moral purpose which drives our daily practice in school and through the work Abercrombie Academics does.
Abercrombie Academics has been employed for nearly ten years to support learners in all different contexts. We work with students attending mainstream education settings, to home educated students, being part of alternative provision packages to adult learners who are completing resit or additional qualifications.
Our services are employed by individuals, parents on behalf of children and with specialist contracts. For example, with local colleges, and we have been privileged to work with the Armed Forces supporting personnel over several years. We work with students in the local community around Christchurch, Highcliffe, New Milton and the New Forest as well as nationally and with international learners through virtual platforms.
Abercrombie Academics is a member of The Tutor Association and staff are DBS checked.
